MUVJBL Under 16 Boys weekend preview: Round 9

THERE are unlikely to be any changes to the top five in either of the Melbourne United Victorian Junior Basketball League (MUVJBL) Ashe or Watson Pools, with an impossible gap between fifth and sixth in the Ashe Pool, and a mathematically improbable gap in the Watson Pool.

Ashe Pool:

Dandenong Rangers (5th, 5-3) vs. Latrobe Energy (2nd, 6-2)
Southern Peninsula Sharks (7th, 3-5) vs. Keilor Thunder (4th, 5-3)
Knox Raiders (1st, 8-0) vs. Bendigo Braves (3rd, 6-2)
Whittlesea Pacers (10th, 1-7) vs. Diamond Valley Eagles (8th, 2-6)
Eltham Wildcats 2 (6th, 3-5) vs. Nunawading Spectres (9th, 1-7)

Knox Raiders are the team to beat from the Ashe Pool, going undefeated from eight games and will be tested this round against third placed Bendigo Braves. The Braves could slip as far as fifth if both Keilor Thunder and Dandenong Rangers win with the pair against Southern Peninsula Sharks and Latrobe Energy respectively. The Energy could also slip to third if they lose and the Braves get up. Eltham Wildcats 2 can consolidate sixth with a win over ninth placed Nunawading Spectres, while eighth placed Diamond Valley Eagles will be keen to finish off strongly with a win against last placed Whittlesea Pacers.

Watson Pool:

Hawthorn Magic (6th, 3-5) vs. Melbourne Tigers (7th, 3-5)
Kilsyth Cobras (9th, 1-6-1) vs. Bulleen Boomers (1st, 8-0)
Pakenham Warriors (4th, 5-2-1) vs. Casey Cavaliers (8th, 1-6-1)
Sunbury Jets (10th, 1-7) vs. Waverley Falcons (5th, 4-4)
Eltham Wildcats (3rd, 6-2) vs. Geelong Supercats (2nd, 6-1-1)

In the Watson Pool it would take a huge win by sixth placed Hawthorn Magic over seventh placed Melbourne Tigers, and a heavy loss by fifth placed Waverley Falcons at the hands of last placed Sunbury Jets, to cause a swap between the sides. Bulleen Boomers will finish top after eight straight wins, and have ninth placed Kilsyth Cobras in the final round, while second placed Geelong Supercats and third placed Eltham Wildcats face off in the match of the round. In the other game, fourth placed Pakenham Warriors facing eighth placed Casey Cavaliers.
